Is It Safe To Exercise During Pregnancy?

The fear of potentially doing something that would harm your growing baby is real.⠀

The #1 question I get from pregnant mamas considering working with me is...

Is it safe to exercise during pregnancy? ⠀

And the answer is yes. If you are healthy and your pregnancy is normal with no complications, it is safe to continue or start regular physical activity (yes, even start!)⠀

Physical activity has shown that it does NOT increase your risk of miscarriage, low birth weight, or early delivery. However, it is important to discuss exercise with your healthcare team during your early prenatal visits. ⠀

You may have to proceed with caution or limitations if you’re experiencing any of the following conditions or pregnancy complications.⠀

👉🏼Certain types of heart and lung diseases⠀
👉🏼Cervical insufficiency or cerclage⠀
👉🏼Being pregnant with twins or triplets (or more) with risk factors for preterm labor⠀
👉🏼Placenta previa after 26 weeks of pregnancy⠀
👉🏼Preterm labor or ruptured membranes (your water has broken) during pregnancy⠀
👉🏼Preeclampsia or pregnancy-induced high blood pressure⠀
👉🏼Severe anemia⠀

But even with all of this, it is important to discuss your options as even a gentle approach to movement can benefit your physical and mental well being. ⠀
